Hello! I have a female turkey a year old. I found this spot today. Does anyone know what this is and how to treat it? All help appreciated.

Thank you for your responses! I found a vet that would see her and it turned out that she had a scab over a cut in her skin. It is located on her right side below her wing. We think it may have been from tom mounting her. After uncovering the wound, the cut looks like it is healing well. We will be treating it with silver honey for a few days. Thanks again!

You need to get her a turkey saddle to allow the wound to heal and to prevent more such wounds.

Blu-Kote works very well on such wounds.

These types of wounds are usually caused by having multiple toms in with a small group of hens. They can also happen when a tom has access to a hen's nest. Toms take a hen sitting on a nest as an invitation to breed. The hen resists the unwanted breeding and the tom can rip her side open by trying to stay on her back.
