The guinea fowl itch!

For now I am sticking to quail but...

I do have the guinea fowl itch! They are *so* cute & I really should start with regular guineas before I move on to my Vulturine, some day. Only concern I have is, according to zoning codes in my area, I must keep them penned 100' from the back of my house & 75' from the corner of any neighbors' dwelling. My neighbors put up with my noisy parrots, but guineas most likely sound off much more often than my parrots considering we have racoons, possums, feral cats, an occasional grey fox & cottonmouths in & out of our back lot on a fairly regular basis. I only want a few pair, not too-too many.

Do they sound off at rabbits, deer & other non predators?

I guess as long as I stick to the zoning code rules, it doesn't matter if my neighbors are bothered by the noise or not

My guineas sound off at a leaf falling from the tree. They are LOUD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Between my peacocks and guineas going back and forth with their sounds, I don't know who is the worst. Probably the guineas I would imagine.

My younger Guineas usually tend to sound off at anything (like living, breathing noisy motion detectors, lol), but as they get older, a little more streetwise and used to the normal sights and sounds of your land they quiet down and only go off on things that are really a problem.

Bothered neighbors usually results in Guineas disappearing (seems like the Guineas always know which neighbor does not like them, so they visit over there daily, purposely making themselves a bother!), so you may wanna buddy up with your neighbors prior to getting any Guineas, lol. Explaining their tick, bug and snake control benefits is helpful, plus giving the neighbors fresh Guinea eggs helps sweetens the deal too.

I did that this morning. My dogs looked at me like "What in the world MOM?!!"

I don't know if I can handle all that racket from the roos. I adore trhe calls the hens make, though

It is kind of sweet. Maybe I can find a few guinea hens.
