For better or worst this is how it works.

I miss hand loading all of my own ammo and shooting off the bench with sand bags. 338 Win Mag Model 70. Win 270, 2 Win 243's. Light loads in the 243's with 80 grain bullets for wife and young sons. I shot the 270 with a light load and 90 grain bullets because after 3 rounds with the 338 Win Mag with 225 Speer taper tail bullets that is all the shoulder I had left. I even used a sand bag between my shoulder and the stock of that 338. It has a really wicked recoil unlike the military Sako 338 sniper rifles. What I give to legally have one of those to shoot steel carvings with at 500 yards. Maybe even a 1,000 on windless days.

Watermelon ballistics test.
3 equal sized big round black diamond melons.

A max load in a 243 Winchester 100 grain loaded cartridge.
A few medium size pieces of rind left laying in the spot where impact occurred.

A max load in a 270 Winchester 130 grain loaded cartridge.
A wet spot in the sand with a little reddish residue.

A max load in a 338mag Winchester 225 grain hollow point Nosler cartridge.
Nothing.

Still reloading my own. Dw has a Rem .260 that is a sweet shooting little piece. I had to sell my 06 and drop to the .308 Win because of a shoulder injury. Other calibers reloading are .357 Mag, 9mm, .223 Rem, 12 and 20 gauge. I live by the rule of YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH AMMUNITION. Especially when my daughter shows up to do some plinking!

I knew a guy back in MO that actually still hunted squirrels. He was a well know sharpshooter with targets. One day he decided to go out squirrel hunting and took his 220 Swift out. Got himself a nice looking piece of meat for supper only to find that the impact and energy release of the Swift was so much that all of the meat was unusable. It was totally bloodshot all the way to its tail after a clean head shot designed to waste nothing. Said he learned his lesson. I always wanted to line up a line of cans of spray paint and see what I could paint on a big piece of canvas. Somehow I think that fire on the canvas just wouldn't be in color.

Just got a new scope for the 22. I guess I have to start saving up for bail money now.... 🤣

It's a DNT Thermnight TNC225R. It is a daytime, night vision, and thermal scope with a laser rangefinder and a ballistic calculator built in.

It records video and you can live stream it to your phone so you can see what the shooter sees in real time. This works great for training kids and new shooters. You can give advice before they pull the trigger.

That one cost a pretty penny!

It's definitely not cheap.... BUT... as far as thermal/nightvision/lrf scopes go, it is one of/if not the cheapest on the market. I typically don't buy the "cheapest" of anything but I do think this is one of the better value day/night/thermal optics available right now.

I'll post some videos later...
