I’d say stick with the WC’s.
Yeah, they're one of the few brands of 1911 magazines that are worth the premium coin. Mine are all Wilson, Para Ordnance or Kimber. I got the Kimbers in a mixed bag bulk magazine buy at a gun show, and I've been pleased with them. No problems at all.

Newbie poking nose in. I had to have my BIL come shoot an opossum in my hen house the other day because we don't didn't own any guns. But our youngest is 17 now and I can no longer claim he doesn't have a lick o' sense, so I purchased a little 9mm at Bomgaar's the other day. It was much less difficult than I anticipated. The bg check was completed in what felt like minutes, not days, and since I don't need a CCL, no class or safety training was required. I paid my money and walked out with my purchase. I have not yet done any practice with it. Need to find a safe place to do that. It is an SCCY, my brother says it looks like a toy but I reckon it will do the job I need it to do.

I'd recommend you take a class in gun safety.
