I'm so sorry it attacked your Missy! I hope she heals. I hate hawks, they've taken so many of my full grown chickens. I hope they leave your chickens alone.

That's a Cooper's Hawk, They are very good at killing chickens. I've had to knock one off of a hen that was more than twice it's size. Once they locate a food source they will come back over and over until there is no more food... or no more Hawk.(HINT-HINT)!!!!

We get hawks hanging about here too. They are determined hunters.

I always scan the sky before letting anyone out. I also stay out with them 100% of the time they are out of the run. No trips in to get a drink or go to the rest room.

I have had a hawk on a full grown Delaware hen. I was out of sight literally seconds. I saw it bank around my apple tree. Seriously got there in the nick of time.

Have you treated the birds wounds yet?

I don't think you'd get in trouble. At least, don't be telling everyone you know "my dog killed a hawk". Some things are better kept secrets
But honestly I've never seen a law that states it's illegal for your dog to kill one. Not here anyway

Not likely. They will tell people not to let small animals out unattended.

Not a thing, particularly if the remains of the hawk disappear and nothing is mentioned on social media. Dogs being dogs, just an accident.

Lots of unfortunate accidents can happen to hawks. Especially if those hawks have taken to killing poultry.

Incidences of hawks attacking people result in people being told to "use umbrellas." They're not even classified as possible nuisance animals in most states.

So sorry about the attack. I believe that is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. They are only about 11" tall. The coarse brown streaks on the breast would be a juvenile.
