The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Collaire, I think these people are looking for particular lines of RIR's. It is a preference thing. I know that I prefer certain lines and wouldn't have anything else and I think most people are the same. All lines are not created equal.

Try a BYC auction for live birds. They can be shipped as adults. someone just has to be willing to pay the shipping

Good luck

These are pure Ramey birds.

I got a email today and it kind of made me think and I did not have a correct answer.
Bob if you had a Rhode Island Red female in a show coop with a five point comb nice dark color in surface and green in her tail good ticking in her neck good average black markings in her wing what would the point cut be if the female had elevated top line like a Plymouth rock bantam. How much does the standard cut for such a fault?

If you had a female next to her with the same head color and markings but true honest to goodness brick shape flat top line with a ten degree lift in her tail she has the correct type so lets say she would score 95 points and would be up for best of breed red bantam and maybe have a shot for the top spot as Champion Single Comb Clean legged.

My point again both birds are equal but the other female has a odd shaped top line and if you did not look for color you would swore she was a Black Plymouth Rock bantam.

OK Judges, what would the cut be for elevated top line and also short in body as she does not have the length as the other red female also, would there be any cuts for symmetry with thisfault. I know we are not judging them by the old fashion point system but some judges do make marks on the coop which sometimes is their method of cutting for points.

One person told me he would think at least a three point cut. He also said he would not breed from her.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Some 10 week old chicks from Ricky Bates Line. They are still feathering in and scruffy, but showing good potential. I have a lot more chicks from this line, these chicks were just the easiest to catch for a quick few pictures.

Only had one chick hatch out of 15 eggs. Baby was peeping on 21st day then finally pipped shell on 23rd day and hatched out. Was weak and wore out but has finally started perking up some. But it is lonesome, might have to take a trip to the feed store and find a "buddy" for it. But that's the way it goes sometimes so will try again when I get another batch of eggs to work with.

I had the same thing happen:

Luckily I had 1 week old cream legbars to keep it company. From Dick Horstman's single comb RIRs

I'm not talking down on Dick but I see your location being Calif. I'm less then 60 miles from Dick and had 12 RC RIR and he sent me 3 Silver Penciled Rocks with them and not one did anything. Well, one of the SPR started to form then blood ring on day 10. This is just how hard it is to get shipped eggs sometimes. I've had some where I would get 10 out of 12 to hatch and I got eggs from Calif and had 12 of 18 make it to lock down and 7 of the 12 hatched. I've gotten 8 eggs and had 6 to hatch. Really makes me wonder what it is.

I put 14 RIR egg in bator Thursday so I'm hoping for a really good hatch. These came in from NYREDS. Had gotten 13 from dinahmor (BYC) Don Nelson line and had 10 of the 13 hatch and still have all 10.
