The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Greetings all, not meaning to interrupt the conversation, but a couple of folks over on the Colorado thread are interested in some non-hatchery (i.e., bred to SOP) RIR. One wants eggs and I believe the other wants chicks, and they are hoping to locate a breeder in or near CO, particularly concerned with someone at similar elevation. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Judi

This is my little buddy New York II he is the son of a cockerel that New York Reds gave me last year his dad was the sire and won real big at a show their in New York area.

He is small, he is 3/4 Mohawk bantam and 1/4 New York Line. I am going to mate him to his aunt and his sister back two the Male here sire I got from New York Reds. The female is a look alike of the male he sent me even the comb in a female package.

I will send you another picture of him next to a large fowl White Rock.

He sure is nice, Bob. Goodness he is little. I didn't realize how small the bantams are. That really puts their size in perspective. Are you taking any of them to the Lake City show?

Remember Penny, we just had 6 inches of snow 2 days ago. lol Really melted today though, was in the low 50's today.
Thanks Bob and WOW, that is one beautiful white rock cockerel. I know what you mean by the NYREDS reds. I have 3 LF pullets from Bill's eggs and I'm sure liking them.
Jim
I was going to ask you Jimmy what all the white looking stuff was on the ground.....I had a t-shirt and shorts on all day today and was sweating a little while I was outside working on some new pens. I may even go cut the grass in the morning before we go visit the In-Laws!!!! LOL!!!!

Just messing with you buddy!!!!

Chris

I talked to a guy that had RC and SC RIR and that is what he told me that his RC was laying better then his SC.If you get any better then mt SC that i have you got something going.

Robert,\(or anyone who knows), do you think the RC lay as well as the SC RIR ??? Just curious, is all.

I doubt that a blanket answer to this question will hold true. I would expect variability would have more to do with strain & family than with comb type.

Hey Chris, I dropped a sack of flour. ha,ha. If you'd ask the chickens they'd tell you what it is and that they don't like it. lol Go ahead rub it in. I was sweating also but it was from breaking ice out of all the fountains and carrying buckets of warm water from my basement to fill them back up. lol The worst part is having to have really hot water to melt the ice in the little trough before I can turn the tops off. grrrr Oh well, I think I heard someone say that we really love this hobby. I just can't remember who it was that said it. I'd bet it was Jeff. ha,ha
Jim
Oh, I don't know if my grass needs cut or not. I can't see it. lol

The only show I am going to is New nan Georgia Show. Will see many of you there. This male and a few others may show up. I got to get things ready for breeding season.

Got orders for over 50 White Rock Chicks. Only have a few breeders so got to really work on them.

The Rhode Island Red bantams where once large fowl Mohawks. I crossed a small R I Red large fowl ckl onto a Rhode Island Red banam pullet from Lee Roy Jones over 20 years ago.

With the help of Danny Feathers who sent me two ckls that he crossed onto his line from my line about ten years ago I got the bantam gene to keep on trickling down.

They are now today brick shaped and dark just like my old large fowl like Matt 1616 has and Paul in Colorado who has my line from Greg Chamness.

I hope to hatch about 50 this year and keep 8 then do it all over again next year.

Its raining this moaning not to cold and got to work this evening.

Merry Christmas to you all keep pushing those dark dark Rhode Island Reds.
