The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Just wanted to post a couple pictures of my 19 week old Underwood Juvie's. I got eggs from Jim Heinz back in October and hatched these out 10 November. Thought I would brag a little about Gary Underwood's birds. Check out the breast, back width and color on these girls. These girls/boys are 19 weeks and are as big or bigger then any of the other lines that I have that are 11 months or older. I also have 24 chicks straight from Gary that are 6 weeks old.

Don't think you will find Rhode Island Reds like this in the Feed stores this month. Boy they are dark.

Look forward to seeing what they look like at laying age. bob
LOL: No Bob I don't think so either. Our local Tractor Supply has had chicks for the past couple of weeks and folks are carrying box after box of them out and I just look and smile.
Thanks for the comment Bob.

Jim, they are looking really good. I went down and was looking at the backs of mine and even my smallest pullet's back, while not as broad as the others, is still even from front to tail and not wedge shaped. I am so happy with these birds and I believe the Underwood line is definitely a line worth preserving for the future. I can not wait for my 6 week olds to get bigger so I can see what my SC cockerels are going to look like.
