The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Here are some pictures of my HRIR. With the exception of one hen in these pictures, all of the chickens are 23 wks 5 days old.

My three girls and my fastest feathering / largest roo #2 Prince Tuesday. But rooster #3 is quickly catching up and may end up being the breeder rooster. Rooster 1 or King Friday looked the best at week 6 but has gradually slipped to 3rd place. As for the hens #4 is the fasted feathering and largest. #5 is close but her tail is still not in, she has always been smaller than the others chickens her age. Then #6 is 4 weeks younger and too early for me to say if she will be a good breeder or not. I'm hoping for at least 2 of the 3 to be great breeders.

Same 4 chickens but the sun really messed with the picture.

The three girls.

Rooster #2 or Prince Tuesday.

Rooster 2 and his girls.

Rooster 2 again not letting me get too close to the girls.

Rooster 1 and Rooster 3 (closer to the garage)

Rooster 1 and 3

Rooster 1 starting to get annoyed at the camera

Right now Rooster 3 has the darkest leg coloring but it is not clearly showing up in these pictures.

I have 3 other younger HRIR roosters not pictured here. They are looking great for their age but I did not get their pictures tonight.

Any thoughts? I realize the pictures are not the best but I'm hoping some things can be pointed out.
They are looking very nice! I like the angles on the tails and the back looks nice and straight.

I think this one would make a really kool album cover.

Nice birds.

Hi Jim,
I got my 1905 SOP I bought on e-bay and the RIR rooster looks just like your rooster you had on your avatar before the one you got now. We do appreciate your web sight and all the help you extend to us.

I am always happy to hear that the information is helpful to some folks; I do a lot of work on that site. I am constantly trying to find more information to post on there. Glad to hear also that you got your SOP. Thanks for the comment. lol

Good Morning Everyone. Got to run out of here for a bit this morning. It's an absolutely gorgeous day that the Lord has made. A cool 62 degrees after a rainy night here in Pa. The girls are cackling and the boys are crowing.

Okay, will be on here a little later. Got to go.
See ya'

I envy the rain and the cool temp, hot and dry here and the girls aren't cackling and the boys say it is too hot to crow. Ice in the water buckets again.

Quote: So if I can keep my roosters warm from 4am to say 7:30am this winter it might delay their crowing till after my breakfast? I have to admit these past few weeks there has been less crowing at my place. I was kind of hoping these were just quiet birds. Then this morning was nice and cool and most of the roosters were crowing only 2 loudly but the others were making some noise.

I have to admit these HRIRs aren't as noisy to me first thing in the morning as my hatchery red roosters were, you see the word "were"

Almost see the breath fly from the roo's when they crow. ha,ha, ha. Not really but hasn't been out of the 60's today. I'm loving it. My birds in the basement are saying to put a shovel of coal in the furnace. No sweating today for sure.
Maybe I could send you a jar of rain and a little cool air.
Jim
