People say all kinds of things when selling birds. Unless you saw the adult stock from which they came, you just cannot know for certain what is being said is truthful.

Wilford Kittle and Dick Horstman have been working together and about t year ago, the Red Chronicle did a feature on Mr Kittle. The article showed lots of photos of the birds. Terry Wible was the reporter on the story. Mr Kittle has been breeding Reds for over 70 years.

I've got lot of photos of the birds and I'll see if I can find them and post a few. The bird shown above is awful orange/rust in feathering leading me to at least be suspect of what your seller told you.

unless the color is wrong on my display, I'm going with this pullet is much much to light to be 100% heritage RIR. Maybe 25 or 50% heritage but not 100%

There are some folks near you with superb birds who might be able to point you in the right direction. There are also some good shows in the southeast US and if you're serious about high quality birds, attending such a show is a great education. There's simply no substitute for seeing true Reds up close and personal.

Some folks also take excess stock to sell at the shows in sellers aisle.

Monday, I'll be shipping two boxes of 4 chicks in each box, to a friend in TN. He'll be receiving 4 K's and 4 P's. These boxes each about $16 and the postage, Express, will be around $50 a box. If that sounds expensive? I'd just say that is likely less than two tanks of gas costs to drive somewhere and return.

4 week old chicks are about ideal to ship, as they are hardy enough and four of them fit nicely into these single nest size boxes. My personal guidance to folks, for what it is worth? Go this route. Forget shipping eggs as those are such a crapshoot. This is great way to get a good start. Well worth the relatively small investment, in my mind.
