The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I sell on craigslist and I started getting calls asking for heirloom chickens. So that is another key word I added to my listing. But it is when people call in and start asking why one kind of RIR is cheaper than the other, that I'm able to explain the differences in the birds.
To me the phrases bred according to the standard or SOP bred and standard bred chick makes a lot more sense but they are not the common terminology on craigslist just yet. And around here many people buying started pullets from me actually prefer the hatchery production rates over the niceness, longevity, and dual purpose of my SOP RIR chickens.

Hi all! I'm new to the thread and I'm slowly making my way through all the old posts. I have a trio of RIR, they are not what I was hoping for (bought them at a couple weeks old from a swap, seller said they were bred from his lines, not TSC or hatchery chicks..a year later and they are laying fools, sweet as can be but NOT anywhere close to SOP birds I was wanting..
So, that leads me to my question..does anyone on here sell hatching eggs from true RIRs? I am in WV, so most likely would need a breeder that ships. Looking for a dozen or so..
My current roo is nice, a lot darker than my girls so he may have some potential. .I'm going to get some conformation shots of him and let you guys judge..maybe of my girls for fun but pretty sure they are straight hatchery chicks..he may be too, just better color (he was supposed to be a she as I was supposedly buying 3 sexed pullets, he got through anyways..but wouldn't change a thing bc he's a **** good roo)

This is my roo..pretty boy but would love opinions on him..like I said, he was supposedly NOT hatchery, but I think he is..I think he has game bird in there somewhere with that high tail set..just my opinion tho

And this is the darkest of my hens..she screams hatchery to me..but she and her sister are great layers and SUPER friendly girls so they're keepers no matter what...
My daughter is in 4H, and the leaders like to push RIRs on the kids..but I would LOVE to get a few true RIR and breed those for the 4H kids instead of what they've been getting. .I have Tolbunt Polish and Silkies in the bator now so that I hopefully get at least a SQ/BQ trio of each to help supply the 4H and FFA with other options but I'd really like to see their faces when offered the true SOP..lol.
Cmom, I have your site up in another window..going to have to look at my incu calendar but I'm very interested ♡♡

Body shape, tail, color and etc. are all wrong.

I hope you get some SOP quality RIRs!

Yeah, the guy I bought them from wasn't very convincing...lol.. I honestly think the girls may be red stars/comets or whatever that is called...the roo, I have no clue but he's here to stay regardless...
I hope I find them too.. hate that these kids are showing birds as RIR, and instead of the judges/leaders helping them, they just let it go on..would love to see a couple kids walk in with true birds and compete ♡♡ Imo, they're the future..if we don't teach them now they're going to grow up believing that is what an RIR is..
I could send any of my 3 to the 4H show and probably win the class, it's that bad around here :(
Thank you btw :)

They look like hatchery Rhode Island Reds to me. Several years ago now, I had been looking for some pure RIRs. I came across this fellow that said he had some. I got 3 dozen eggs from him and they hatched out but were in no way pure RIRs. They were probably from hatchery stock. I did eventually sell them they were good egg layers.

Here are some of my boys in the bachelor coop and pen

This is one of my pullets. She won a champion at a show.
