The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Hey Jimmy. Our little Nelson line boy you bred is doing great!! He's really a sharp young cockerel. Love him to death. The other is a dog, bow wow!!! LOL Just the way it is. Anyhow, I'll get a glamour shot of him one of these days.
I just had two of them hatch out today. lol I thought you had a pair???? I haven't taken picture of my Nelson's for an awful long time. I've been so overwhelmed with these Underwood's that I've been really watching them closer. I just went down after reading this post and got a picture of my boy that hatched 4/1 He is really getting nice. I have a few pullets but this has been one really awful year for incubating. I don't know if it was from sooooo much rain causing the humidity to go crazy or what. I had 4 eggs in the bator to hatch tomorrow and two have popped out already so don't know about the other two yet. These were Nelson's. I'm sure planning on helping you out when the weather gets different. lol I don't know what is going on with this weather. We had like 12 - 14 days straight of rain. Anyway, here's my Nelson young one. 20 weeks old yesterday. Not the best pictures, it was almost dark. I took one with the flash and one without. Gives you a little idea of what he looks like. Not to shabby. lol

I'm hoping that most of my HRIR's in the bator hatch. I put in 48 but about 19 were clear and a few didn't develop. I'm down to 19 at lockdown. They are from retirees from a Gov't run facility with a pure line going back 60 yrs.

On the leg color, about what age does the dark red line really just pop out at you? I have noticed that the line is getting darker on my birds that are about 20 weeks old but I'm thinking it will keep getting darker as they mature. I have some birds that are only 16 weeks old and the line while somewhat there is not nearly as striking.
Sally, they aren't all the same and some don't have much at all. This is why when you do get them with really nice horn they are a little special. These birds were 15 weeks old when this picture was taken. A few of them have no horn going down the legs/toes at all.

I wish you the best of luck. Hatching is a touch and go thing sometimes. lol

How interesting... do you have any pics from the parental line?
I'm planning on heading to the person's place in a cpl days to get pics and see if he got any paperwork for the birds. They came from Pacific Agri-Food research facility. According to the guy I got the eggs from They have genetics going back 60 yrs.Assoon as I get some pics I'll post them plus any chicks( had a hard time with a heater malfuntioning at the beginning then frying the heater outlets on my controller.)

Insert 'wolf whistle' here.

I really like this leg color!

ROFL Oh my, that's funny but thank you so much for the response, I think. lol I'm looking in my files for a picture I just took a few days ago of one of my pullets that is really super. If I find it I'll post it on here.
Jim
Okay, found the pic I was looking for. I just set up a new computer last Saturday and I've been having so much fun trying to find the stuff that I transferred over from the old one. I've gotten pictures all over the place in different files. lol Anyway, here is the pullet that has absolutely gorgeous legs/feet and almost completely black beak. She is really something special.
Sally, this is one of the Underwood SC's. She was 6 months 3 days on this picture.
