The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

In the neck there is a lot of lacing, that lacing will give you a ton of head aches down the road when working on color.
 
Ya the black in the neck or ''collars''.
You are right when you start stirring the pot any thing will pop up.

When that black starts showing up you can also start getting black in the wing bow and in the breast.

Our boy is 17 weeks old. Any thoughts on his color and conformation? He is getting darker and darker every day. Worth breeding? He for sure has the black/blue neck collar gene referred to below.

No, not worth breeding at all. This is a hatchery quality bird, and production red. Sorry.
 







@ Lewis Farms These birds show what a true bred, Rhode Island Red, and this thread is all about.

Long, oblong, brick shaped bodies, rich, dark mahogany feathering, Perhaps you'll be able to get started soon with some real Rhode Island Reds.

That top one isn't a Rhode Island Red is it?
