good enough for showing? critiques please

My suggestion would be to show him. Not all judges think alike. One may really like him more than another judge. You just never know. Several years ago I decided to show some birds just to see how they placed at the shows and get some advice from other breeders about their about their faults as well as their good points. This past fall, winter and spring I showed some birds that I was unsure could be Champions but decided to show them just to see how the birds were judged. In one show I had a cockerel and pullet both win in their class, both won Champion American. You just never know. Pictures don't always show their best qualities. Here is an interesting read. http://bloslspoutlryfarm.tripod.com/id64.html

I finally got my birds all moved into their breeding pens. Now I'm just finishing up renovating the growout coop. I started collecting eggs for the incubator, so soon I will be hatching. I am a bit late this year. We have had company from up north visiting and the last of the company left yesterday. Now it's time to get serious and back to work with the chickens. They did get neglected a bit when the company was here. We are old folks and just never know how much time we have left.

would you be able to tell me why hes not a good example

Well, there are multiple problems in this picture but most glaring is the tail structure. He looks very narrow in the back and he looks like he could possibly have a wry tail. The tail angle is to high and there is not enough tail in general.

ok thanks for the help

Just some off the top thoughts as I looked at your bird.

It is always hard to tell in a picture because they never pose for you and looks like you are aiming down at the bird which also tosses off the picture. I try to do a couple of things when I take a picture. I try to be at the same level of the bird and I also like short video clips because that gives you a really good view of the bird as he/she walks around.

My first thought is he has to high of a tail or incorrect angle for the tail. Because of the rise in the tail it makes him look like he is not long and does not carry that good brick shape the Reds a known for.
