The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Very helpful. thanks. One concern will be will they honor the 42" electric net fence. I already had an issue with my first breeding pen/pasture, at dusk the K flew back over to the flock that I had removed him from. That was all my fault though, I should have known to keep him in the coop for a couple days before letting him range. After I did that there were no problems. Separating as young as possible, as you suggested, should also help. Something new to do this year, always an adventure to look forward to. Thanks again.

I've never had a RIR not honor the electronetting. Periodically I'll get a smarty pants rhodebar who thinks that going over is fun game. I put the rebel a,few times. If he/she keeps going over they go in the freezer. Because I use maremma I don't have to ever worry about predation "in the netting", but frankly, the dogs are enough of a deterrent that escapees aren't in much danger either.

Eggs are in the incubator, now for the waiting. Been renovating the chick/grow-out coop. It's almost done, just a little tweaking. Have some experimental breedings too. Put eggs in from my champions and the new boy I got from Matt.

I am late this year I normally have chicks hatched out by now. I guess, better late than never.

I HATE INCUBATORS !!!! Ugg my power went out for 8 plus hours a week ago. I went to candle eggs last night...when the power came back on it did something to the turner and they have been in the same place for over a week. Out of the 300 eggs maybe 30 might make it. This has been my year for incubator problems in all 4 of them and the hatcher. Went over them and put in new parts and all was going OK. Frustrated to the max!

OK on a brighter side here is a bad picture or two of the birds I purchased from Warren Carlow. They were fast feathering and have been really good layers so far.

I know this if for page us for Reds but want to share my Rhode Island Whites.

I still have a ways to go to get them where I think they should be.

Mckee Farms,

As it has been said it is really hard to tell with these pictures. First one is not bad. It does have some issues but that could be due to the angle of the picture etc. If the second picture does not look like the first rooster so if he same bird I am shocked. The second picture show a orange color which is not good and comes from the commercial side of RIR's.

I am looking for good rc rhode island reds. I prefer mature birds but will consider eggs/ chicks out of decent bloodlines. Does anyone have any available?
