The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I am looking for good rc rhode island reds. I prefer mature birds but will consider eggs/ chicks out of decent bloodlines. Does anyone have any available?

I've hatched a few hundred out of 4 trios. I have Underwood birds. I don't sell chicks but will begin parting with pullets and cockerels in July or so.

Anyone heard from Freds Hens lately? Wondering if he went to his partners in Tennessee again with some breeders.

He got my extra young Nelson cockerel a bit back... wondering how it filled out.

My first incubator is going but I think I might have jumped the gun as we have snow again. If all of them hatch I will need two melon boxes for brooders inside for extended housing with protection from cats. No basement or heated outdoor quarters here.

The adults are out roaming in six inches of snow!!! Hardy buggers!

I use melon boxes too for brooders when my brooder cabinet is full. They work great I do put a piece of wire on top because when the chicks learn they have wings they can get out of the boxes.

Yep that looks like my set up with one exception: because of the cats I have the melon box elevated on the dining room table. But only one box will fit up there! About 16th or 17th hatching should begin.

Quote: Do you have a picture? How do you reach inside? What do you do with the feed and water? (I'm trying to picture a melon box on my table and the boxes are pretty tall. I know it's part of the daily chores) The cats don't try to jump up? Just curious...

Quote: I'm so wanting some. I need to take a look at all of my breeds and see if I can part with one to make room. Once that is decided I'll be messaging you for sure.

I would like more. Right now I have one family and would like another from the same line to line breed. This month is already taken. I have to get new fencing. I have quite a bit to replace.

Opinions on this girl from those that know more about RIRs? She is about 4 months old.

And this boy? He is about nine months.....no worries about my feelings. Both are darker in person without sun glare camera is picking up. Trying to get a better eye for the breed.

My main question, is where did you get your stock from? Getting good pictures is always hard. You just have to the the correct light, for them not to be pecking at the ground, and to get them to hold that perfect pose. Then comes the part of them being in that perfect feather condition.

First pullet seems to become to narrow towards the tail. Is the second picture the same bird?

Cockerel picture...first one show that he is not to bad but the second leaves the picture of little or no chest may be long but not in that typical brick shape body.
