The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

These are a few of my project birds that I'm working on. These are just a little over 11 weeks. Hoping they turn out super. This is just the first step. It will take a few years before I'm finished with them. LOL Had a coon take two of these before I caught and killed him a couple of nights ago. Still setting trap and nothing since so maybe there was just the one. Will be keeping the trap set.

They are beautiful.

Here are a few pictures of my Reese chicks They are not the greatest pictures. The males are in other coops and pens. I was going to take a picture of them but saw critter tracks and got side tracked and took pictures of the tracks. I do have electric around all of my coops and pens.
.
I think a few are in their coop.

These are about 3 weeks younger than the ones in the pictures above. These RIW chicks
in this picture are from eggs I got from a BYC member in Idaho. I had put a canopy in this pen but the wind has destroyed it so I have to take it out. We live on a hill so we get a lot of wind. This is the only pen I need to make a shade table for the chicks

The RIW chicks in this pen are from my own birds. The RIR chicks are from different males
That is why I have them separated but all are Reese. I have a bit of banding to do.

Thanks, they recently lost their peeps and are now getting their adult voices. I got a late start this year so they are still pretty young but growing fast. We have had so much rain that I am behind where I would like to be and these old bones don't move like they used to. I did get some of the birds banded.

Sorry for bothering everyone, but I need some advice.

My broody Welsumer is currently incubating seven (7) RIR eggs, as well as raising four chicks from eggs set a few days earlier than the ones she's on. We had extreme temperatures and a lack of humidity during most of the incubation period - this has caused me to lose two chicks due to early pipping, and survivors have had problems 'zipping' the membranes, which become dry and stiff shortly after pipping.

I don't want to lose these seven eggs. Should I put them in my incubator to regulate the humidity, or wait until Sunday and pray for the best?

Any help is appreciated.

If the membranes are already dried out, putting them into an incubator to raise humidity will not help. If they are stuck, you will need to assist them with hatching.

Still put them into an incubator though. It is much easier to assist with hatching that way.

If the chicks aren't stuck you could put them in the incubator with plenty of wet sponges to bring up the humidity and mist the eggs especially where the chick has started to zip. Don't worry about how high the humidity goes up it will come back down. I have done this with good success. I am careful when I mist around the area zipped and sometimes I take a moist Q-tip and wet the area. If the chick had pipped but not zipped just wet the area where the pip is. If the chick appears stuck then you may need to help but sometimes when the chick had pipped but has not started zipping just be careful if you assist and watch for blood and if you see any stop and just apply some moisture. Also wrapping the egg in a moist paper towel can help. Good luck and hope all turns out well...
