The answer is no. I have tried it and all of the offspring turned out to be SC. Future generations from her chicks would be SC. If you got a RC male from her you could breed him back to her, the original RC female, then you still could get some SC but a greater chance of RC. SC is dominant over RC. There are some breeders who use our SC line and breed into their RC line and do get some RC and SC. My original breeding years ago was a RC male with SC females and I got about 50/50 RC/SC. OK to breed mother/son, father/daughter.

While it's ideal to use distant relatives to start out, you can breed brother/sister to start your line breeding if you only have one family... then use their offspring to breed back to their parents. I won't have to do that any time soon, but it is an option for future generations. As long as I have 2 families, I should be able to breed them indefinitely without introducing new blood. I just have to make sure I keep excellent records to know who came from who...

I have never bred sister/brother. I know I have had brothers and sisters in the same coops and pens but I separate them long before I start my breeding season so there is no way I'll get chicks from a sister/brother. I have bred mother/son, father/daughter. What I meant is if you breed your RC girl to a SC male and if you get a RC male then you can breed him, the RC male to the mother for a better chance of getting any RC if you want RC. I knew what you meant, and I'll most likely end up with a small flock of RC reds. It wasn't in the original plan, but it is what it is, and I'll make the most of it.

Most line-breeding charts (eventually) breed brother and sister together. What I meant is that it's an option if all of your (purebre) stock are siblings. Starting with brother/sister will require new blood to be introduced (sooner than later), but it will get a breeding program up and running if you don't have any other options. Fortunately, you offered two families... so that will make things much easier for me. Thank you. I should only need fresh blood if there's a fault I can't breed out.

The hatch is on today. Yesterday was day 21 but only 1 hatched yesterday. the rest are hatching today. The temperature was right on. Go chickies.

I think you may be right. She's definitely "growing on me". Here she is , one by herself, and one with her hatch mate...

Hmm... I haven't really thought about that. I suppose I can just breed him to an SC pullet and cross him back to an RC daughter. It works both ways... right?
