I don't vaccinate. I do have my birds tested yearly (NPIP) which if you don't they will be tested at the shows when you check them in. My birds get good feed and plenty of water. (I have auto waterers) also I sanitize the coops when I clean them. I have never had a problem yet.

Hey All, am getting some SC RIR eggs from Dick Horstman at the end of the month. Anyone here care to share pics of any stock gotten from Dick?
Thanks, Steve

Several years ago I got some Large Fowl Rose Comb RIR eggs from Dick.

This is Dexter. His son has gotten Best of Breed and some shows.

New to this forum, but I wanted to post dome pics of my RIR hatch that too place 2 days ago. These chicks are in the brooder and doing well. I hope I didn't post too many pictures, These little guys and gals are so cute. I could not help myself. I hatched 13 out of 22 shipped eggs and all but 4 had detached air cells. This hatch was a huge learning experience, I have never dealt with so many eggs with so badly of detached airc ells. I am happy with the results, they are healthy and having fun. I think tomorrow ill introduce the wood chips. They are feeding out of the feeder. Its amazing how fast they can learn stuff.

This thread is amazing. I am on page 120 and wow. So much information, I feel late to the RIR party, better late than never I guess. :)
It's never to late...

Hi,
I have another question. This time about showing. If you a had show foundation flock
which hadn't produced descendants yet ( because you had just obtained them) ,
would you show them or keep them home until the next generation was produced?
I want to take my White Chanties to Columbus so badly but don't know if it is wise.
Thanks for all your help!
Karen

They are your birds and you are now caring for them so take them and see how they place...

No not yet. Haven't been feeling well but have a Dr.'s appt tomorrow. I had a strange episode recently and it scared the bejesers out of me. I did contact my Dr. so she would have time to think about what might have caused it. Could have been some sort of a warning. I have been working on setting up my breeding pens. They are partially set up. I'm letting the girls clean out so the chicks are with the males I put them with.

I'm planning on either taking a section of the barn to make into a hatchery but probably putting another small building up. I have electric and water near by. I think I have a small 110 ac water heater. I'll have to dig a trench to put pvc pipe in for the water. I have a hydrant near by I can tap into.
