The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Why does the Standard have to change based on what people choose to breed at a given time? People who breed to the standard say they are trying to preserve the breed, but if people keeping changing the Standard, that is not preserving anything. Worst of all, it is changing just for aesthetics, not for something worthwhile like production. Actually, just about everything on a Rhode Island Red has changed, not just the comb and tail. Maybe since the last standard revision.

I completely agree and don't really understand. I guess if the standard never changes you don't sell more guides. Maybe that plays into it as well. Quite honestly, and again with no disrespect to those breeding RIRs, the New Hampshire's look closer to the turn of the century standard. Anyone know how that break came about? Seems almost like that's where all the change happened.

Who is raising Rose Comb Rhode Island Reds and who has the best in everyone's opinion? Here's a couple of my females in RC RIR. Also raise RC RIW's

Hi, Im planning to start my own chicken farm and what really brought me to this forum is a search for Heritage Rhode Island Red Chicken. I was searching for 100% authentic Heritage Rhode Island Red Chicken for every long but then I saw a thread in here talking about it. I really want to buy 100% authentic Rhode Island Red Chicken.

Im from India and Im willing to pay good price for these chickens. I can buy local Rhode Island Red Chickens but they are NOT 100% authentic.

Question: What is "Rose Comb Rhode Island Red"? Is this the original Rhode Island Red?

The difference between a RC and a SC Rhode Island Red is just that the comb. They should look the same in type, color etc.

We hatched 10 RIR eggs in February, nine ladies and one gent. Dad has a single comb and mom has an inverted rose comb so the chicks were a mix combwise. The roo (about 16 weeks old) has been developing an impressive rose comb!
