They wouldnt be heritage according to the definition that is presented by the ALBC would they?

Dont know and dont worry about those folks and thier lists. They mean well and do a lot to promote us folks to have rare livestock I am interested in waterfowl and chickens. I can tell youin 1956 when I had fifty cents in my pocket that my mother gave me to take to the sale barn in Centralia Washington I saw two white silkie bantams and bid on them they sold for 75 cents. I then bid on two scrub hatchery buff cochin females pullets I got them for 50 cents. They where my first start in poultry. I was so happy with them. They lived 17 years and God knows how many eggs they hatched each year for us. In my book Silkies are a old Standard breed of chickens going back to the 1800s. They still are pretty, and they make great mothers. I was thinking of getting some to sit under my call duck eggs.

There are so many great breeds that go back to the first Standard of Perfection in 1875 or in that time period. I base my stop deadline on my black and white APA standard I bought as a teen ager at the Oregon State Fair. We had I think that year the APA convention and got to meet some super star breeeds from the mid west who where some of the founders of our old clubs and leaders of the APA. One was a Mr. Miller from Ohio who raised black and white large fowl Cochins. This guy was a master breeder and I wish we had him to coment on some of these subject. It old guys like me and young guys like Walt who remember the teachings of this Masters. We hope we can did into our minds of their teachings they taught us. I think more than anything we need to just breed the best we can and make sure we look at the pictures in the standard and read the words that are their for our favorite breed when we can. I have pictures of the black and white pictures in my chicken house to remind me what I shoud and should not be looking for.
Some folks do not live and die by the standard and they want to breed the way they think is should be.

Some judges will want a bigger bantam and I will get beat at a show because mine are the right size and the others are larger. I dont breed by what the judges like as they can be off in thier ideas. But the old red book with the black and white pictures is my favorite one and if the breed is in that old book its old. To tell you the truth Heritage is a word I dont care for. But I had to use something to get your attention. Standard Breed is the correct term taught to me as a boy.

Well its raining a cold front is coming thorugh the south and I got to go and work on my day off.

Hope all is well in Poutlry Land. Found three more breeds of lost chickens to day. Anaconas in Ohio and Blue Andelusions and another strain of R I Red Large Fowl. bob

ROSE COMB RHODE ISLAND RED HEAD POINTS

How many points does a Rose Comb Rhode Island Red have on its head when cutting for defects by the APA standard?

When we put point cuts to leg color how many points are cut for not having ideal leg color?

Here is a web site for black rose comb bantams and the points offered for the head is 29. So that’s over ¼ on the bird compared to points for legs on this bantam seven points are considered or one 1/3 of the emphases over the head. There for in a Rose Comb black bantam they should have the best heads possible to win at a show under excellent competition or to compete on Champion Row for best bantams or Rose Comb Bantam, Something to think about when looking at the overall bird for his total points score if you do this kind of thing when you look at a bird on the internet or live on the ground. I always look at a Red and score them in my head or gut. Some times I get real excitted and want to learn more about the strain. Sometimes I just shake my head and say commerical quality only. Try to keep the best type birds as breeders. What do you guys do?
Something to think about as the cold front runs down the country today. Bob

excellent web site for these club members and leaders.

Ok cool, are there recognizable names in all of the different heritage breeds of fowl?

I decided to post this here as I want these birds to find the RIGHT homes. I have 4 Heritage RIR single comb roosters. If I don't place them they will be chicken and noodles. It would be a shame to not see them used in a program. If anyone wants them, I would give them away to help someone else out. However you have to already have some good single comb hens. Please do not use these to cross on your production reds just to pass off the chicks as heritage. Im gonna ask for photos if you want one or all.

Would they happen to be from Gary Underwood's stock? I only ended up with 2 cockerels in the batch I got from him. I had mostly Rose Combs. I would have liked more single combed roosters to choose the best one for breeding.
