Nice Male Lucky. Mr. Ramey told me he got some birds about 40 years ago from a fellow who sold stuff on estate sales. He had these birds left over so he said would you like them and he said yes. He told me he breed them to the standard and then brought them to South Carolian a few years ago when he moved. I love the type on these as they remind me of the old California look or some of the Harold Tompkins line from Mass. Dont worry where they came from just dont cross them onto any other line even mine. Keep them pure. Have any females?

He sold many eggs last year and some might have gone to his house to pick up chicks or eggs if so do you have some to show us. We need pictures. Remember dont cross these old lines if you do you will be sorry. bob

I lost three dozen eggs during the april storm last year, and after three more dozen this one male is the only one. I hatched out over 300 chicks last year, had over a 90% hatchrate with mine, but couldn't get many of these to hatch for some reason, shipped eggs didn't help. The ones that did hatch couldn't get off their back, others developed pasty butt and died, even though I cleaned them constantly.. Never seen chicks that couldn't get off their backs before these, or continue to get pasty butt.. I do like the looks of these, and know if I could have hatched out atleast 20, I would have had a good start with this line. If anyone else got eggs from Mr.Ramey I would really be curious to know your success with them, and would love to see some pictures. I would also pay 50.00 a piece for two good pullets from this line, if anyone has any. I would also like to add, I have never seen a more curious bird as this male, he follows me around like my dog, never spooks, and will come to me as soon as he see's me, never had a production bird this friendly thats for sure.

I have 5 birds that I hatched from Mr Ramey. I set 36 eggs and hatched these 5 last summer. I ended up with 2 pullets and 3 cockerles. I have them free ranging and they have excellent color but they are a little smaller than I would like. Part of that is that the were late hatched. If your interersted, I'd sell you the 5 birds. I am in Pensacola, Florida. Let me know. These birds are a little younger than your male but they look just like him.

This is my first time back on BYC in over a year, and I am so glad to find this thread. RIR have been the hardest breed for me to research. We were lucky enough to be given some RC RIR birds from a friend here on BYC, and my son totally fell in love with them. Unfortunetely we lost our Cock to a fox, and have not been able to replace him. I cannot wait to learn more about the different lines, and hopefully find someone that is willing to share some birds with us.
