The Hidden Door-A Role Play (AKA The Most Dangerous Coffee Shop II)

“I understand,” Cam said, turning over the exotic image in her mind of people selling exotic fruit on the street, or in a market. So different from buying produce from Walmart or Meijer, so exotic. But she could figure out from the context of his description what he was saying, about Mexico’s darker side, even though the only Spanish she knew was ‘no’ and ‘hola.’ That brought to mind the pictures of corruption that Central America was currently dealing with. Actually, it was harder to decipher the thick accent than figure out what the Spanish words meant.
As cool as Mexico may be, she certainly didn’t want to live there. “Mexico sure is beautiful, but that must be scary. Do you have a family back home?”
She turned her head and screamed “NOAH!” for good measure.
When Cam asked about his family, Ciro brightened luminously like a child who'd just brought a prized toy into school to share with his peers. "Yes, my wonderful mamá and two little hermanas, Gabriela and Alicia." Ready to confide in her about his devastating failure, he lifted up his bag, now wearing an expression hardly different from a scolded puppy's. But when she called out into the impenetrable woods beyond, he slowly lowered it back to his side. "Is Noah your hermano...brother?"

Carson was cleaning out the cougar enclosure at the end of the day. Today's been a good day, he reflected with a glance around the now clean cage. There had been more visitors than usual that day, but not too many had decided to throw their trash into Buck's habitat. He went into the back storage area and produced a large piece of meat. "Come and eat, then we can go for a stroll," he called to Buck in the strange, rumbling tongue of a cougar. Buck happily obliged, then Carson led him out of the cage and onto the walk-way of the deserted zoo. Content to be silent for a while, they both walked, lost in their own thoughts. After about half an hour, Carson broke the silence "I've almost got enough to build a nice place for you at the house. Just one more year and I think you can move in." Buck brightened. "Really? That's great news." Both sighed contentedly. They didn't think anything could ruin this moment. They were wrong. In the next few moments, the course of their lives were about to be taken on a sharp, unexpected turn. A jagged hole was opened suddenly underneath them, and they fell through with a shout. Buck landed heavily and laid there for a while, dazed. Carson stood and looked around, confused. He seemed to be in a dense, dark forest. Quickly, he assessed the situation and decided his best chances were to find other people that might know what was going on. He nudged Buck with his foot and with an unspoken agreement between them, chose a random direction and began walking. Buck's ears were pricked and his jaws parted to catch any scent or sound of humans or danger. Carson was thumbing the dagger on his belt unconsciously while scanning his surroundings for anything that would tell him where he was and how he ended up here. Are we even still on Earth? He wondered but quickly brushed the thought aside. Of course he was on Earth! Where else could he be? "Is anyone there?" He called out, hoping someone would hear him
Rylie twisted his ears towards a noise in the forest. If possible, he looked even edgier than before. He could hear a cat, a big one, and an unfamiliar man.
"Rylie?" Kyle asked. Rylie angled away from the direction of the sound. "He hears something out there," Kyle announced. "Everyone, be on alert."

"Noah? No. He's my neighbor. I was supposed to be babysitting him, and now he stepped into a portal... and he's gone," Cam said. The weight of responsibility hit her all at once. Mrs. Chandra expected her to keep him safe while she was gone, expected to come home to two little children, and Cam would have to tell her... that he was gone. And she'd just been socializing and thinking about herself. Well, if she ever made it back at all. That was her only comfort. That she'd probably die looking for him.

Buck growled, alerting Carson to other people nearby. He nodded and let Buck take the lead. He drew out his dagger, not sure how they would react when they saw him. He thought again and instead put it back in his belt. He wouldn't want to scare them if they could tell him what was going on and how he ended up here. He wouldn't get much from them if they were too busy defending themselves or running away, though he wouldn't blame them if that's what happened even if he didn't have his blade drawn.

(I speak a little Spanish so I can understand what he is saying sometimes :))

Rylie's pupils swallowed up his eyes as he hissed into the undergrowth.
'Don't hurt us, newcomer.' He trembled with fear, knowing the other cat would be much bigger.

Buck paused, confused. "That is not our plan. We just got here... somehow." Buck responded, angling his ears toward the direction of where he heard the other animal. Carson listened, wondering why it had thought they would hurt him and what he had meant by 'us'. How many were there?

Rylie released a little tension. 'What are you?' the cat carried a heavy, unfamiliar scent, but it was earthly, unlike the things surrounding him. (gtg)

(Bye!)
"I am a cougar." Sniffing the undergrowth intently, he realized he wasn't sure what he was talking to either. "What are you?"
