He gave a grunt of appreciation before scooching farther back along the bank until his shadow was no longer on the water. I'll get one for sure, now. He thought happily

He was taken aback. Was that what this was? Did she think that he and Ashira were getting too friendly? "That was Ashira. She grew up on the other world, so she doesn't know English. I was helping her learn how to understand it." He explained quickly, willing her to understand
