The Hidden Door Chat Thread

I am having an....um.....interesting yes that’s the word, I’m having an interesting summer. We are stuck between two of the most opposite elements, the bridge that is our one way out of our half of the community (unless you go the 5 hr way via the mountains) anyway, the bridge is supposed to flood in the next few days and possibly even this afternoon. First fire now floods

Meanwhile, I’m having a very mild winter. Which I feel is well deserved, considering I had seven... SEVEN snow days last winter
It was simply horrible.

Kylan felt all of his high and hopeful spirits drain away at the tiny man's words. His smile dropped into a deadpan look, his eyes turning hopeless, face paling.
Funny, how something so small could do that to you.
His mind flashed back, reminiscing much too clearly about May's death. She'd died so painfully, her youthful happiness and silliness having left so fast in her last days when she was weakest, leaving to never return. He'd been there when she died, saw the life slip away from his big sister. He'd always remember that, remember her last words.

Kylan sat silently on the hospital chair beside May's hospital bed, staring down at his bony hands with blank eyes. Their parents were still at the shop, and as soon as he had gotten out of school he'd ran straight to the hospital to be with his older sister.
But now that he was there he couldn't even hardly look at her. Her honey eyes looked dead inside, her dark skin looked sickly, and the chemo had long taken her lush kinky curly hair.
He heard her shifting around, looking over at him with eyes that made him want to turn and crawl away like a frightened infant. He was just so
scared, to lose her. Scared he'd have to grow up, graduate, find a job, have a family, without the guidance of his big sister who'd always looked out for him. And that almost made him want to just leave the room, or pretend everything was okay like Dad was doing-- But he couldn't, could he?
"We should talk... Silence isn't comfortable..." Her usually loud voice was quiet and frail, a deep rasp embedded into it.
He looked up at her, his mouth opened to respond, but nothing came out. It felt like someone had wrapped their grimy hands around his throat, squeezing the words away.
He had no clue that'd be his last chance to speak to her besides to a silent gravestone.

Kylan sucked in a breath.
He couldn't-- Wouldn't, lose Torin too. No monster or giant wolf or bison looking boar or person was going to take him away, too.
He forced himself to climb to his feet, his terrified eyes going hard as he looked down at Kyle, his breath heavy. "My brother isn't dead. None of them are, got it?" He said, his voice harsh.

Lilith nodded, giving a smile. "C'mon, it's in the barn." She said, stepping back into the dinning room.
She noticed with curiosity that Srutu had taken Cam by the arm and dragged her outside as she stepped out, headed for the dragon filled barn. "Dragons... Never in my dreams did I think they'd exist, somehow..."
