Hi- we are getting 5 sell ink pullets in a couple of weeks and I have used your site extensively in the past few weeks as we have been building our coop. ( my sister says that I have OCD- obsessive chicken disorder) . Our "free" chicken coop - a repurposing of my sons' tree house which fell during storm Nemo, is getting to be very time consuming and not crazy expensive, yet more expensive than we thought. Thanks to the forum we purchased 1/2 hardware cloth instead of chicken wire and also vinyl flooring. This weeks purchase- need to order metal roofing to cover part of their run. What is the absolute must have for my girls?

Welcome to BYC!!!

well the part of the run roof that isn't covered would benefit from deer netting to keep hawks from dropping in for lunch. They don't like risking damage to their wings.

Hi and :welcome

Your coop sounds good!
You might want some litter in there, maybe straw or wood chips. And a box of sand/dirt is good for chickens to dustbathe.

Enjoy the site. :D

We are covering the top with half metal roofing (like a large screened porch to protect from the elements) and half hardware cloth.......we bought 100 ft and routinely have bears, foxes, and other creatures in our yard. Thank you for the sand and wood chip ideas!
