I am thinking I might have gotten robbed after they swarmed too. But no way to really tell.

I only used the screened bottom board to check for mites . Killing a cup of bees for a alcohol wash on my swarm hives seemed a waste .

I'm reading. I have alot of pages to go yet. Here for the laughs and also to gleen information in case I want to fight off bears and put money into another hobby. DH is not on board with this one....but then he wasn't with the chickens either...

This was a relatively cheap hobby compared to chickens.
$400 for two hives
$350 for the bees
$200 for supers and tools
$250 for two bee suits.
$30 sugar

And for all that I got no honey. But had the joy of being stung twice guaranteeing me of eternal youth with the Gywneth Paltrow beauty treatment.

The Yellow Crownbeard at my farm is going nuts right now. Someone's bees are really enjoying it. Honey Bees EVERYWHERE, the fields are just humming.

I checked my bees today.
The mean hive is getting meaner.

I was 30 ft or so from the hive when they started bumping me. They were in full attack mode at 15-20 ft away.

My mentor says I should kill the hive, he says they are too dangerous to keep around. He thinks I should let them keep storing the sugar water as long as they can, then kill them and give their honey and sugar frames to the nice bees.

I am considering this.
