Stinkum really upsets me. I have found bees to be highly attracted to hair spray. This can be a horrible experience for the wearer of hair spray.

You know, I wonder if you could use that to your advantage... spray something with lots of hairspray and put it near the hive, then simply don't wear any "Stinkum" and don't go near the hairspray object. Maybe the bees will all go bother that thing rather than you while you do what you need to do.

You try whatever you want to, I won't be trying it. I know what happens when you open a hive. There are thousands more in there than the few that might be attracted to the wig.

Lol, yes, but those thousands will be pissed no matter if you put a wig near the hive or not, every bee that can be distracted seems like it would be 1 bee that is less likely to bother you. I mean, if you're opening the hive anyway and riling them all up...

I know that many recommend being still when being buzzed by bees. My recommendation is to either kill it immediately or to run like the dickens. It especially helps to dive through tall grasses, shrubs or anything leafy.

If a stinging insect gets in your hair, squash it immediately. It will get tangled and work its way deeper and deeper until it gets close enough to sting you. It is mad that you have trapped it and it is going to get even.

I have seen this happen personally. That is where my fear came from.
This lady at church camp head really long curly hair.. and a wasp got stuck in it towards the end. As several of us scrambled to hold out the ends of her hair trying to let it out it just burrowed deeper and deeper. It was absolutely terrifying!
Everyone was too afraid to squash the wasp and get stung themselves
Someone finally found a couple of sticks or something and got it smashed before it got to her head. I'll never forget Watching that thing working its stinger trying to sting her hair. If it had made it to her head it would have stung her over and over!
At least a honey bee can only sting once.. as long as there's only one.

Do not fear the stinger when squashing the bee. I tend to just slap myself with my hand on top of the bee. Of course you don't want a direct slap over your ear canal or you can damage your eardrum. Plus if I smack too hard, it does not feel very good. You can just clap it between your palms and you will be okay but the bee won't be..

I never have any problems with bumble bees. I can even pet them without any issues. Of course, I don't use hair spray and they have no interest in my aroma.

I wouldn't be worried about a slapping a bee.
But wasps are harder to kill!
And those red wasps around here are so mean!
