The Honey Factory

The Russian Olives are blooming and stinking up the place.

After 3 days of cool temps and rain the bees are back to work. Now at 91F they are booming and the "porch" is solid bees with partial bearding on the face of the hive. Baskets are packed full with Cranberry pollen, no smoke or suit to do a quick frame chk which was honey full. Did get whacked on thumb 'cause I pinched one. Oh well. I think I'll be taking a medium off of each established hive then decide if I want the other two.

Do you know a beekeeper? Offer to help them. Even if you don't know anything, another pair of hands during a hive inspection can be a big help.

Consider getting a second hive. I wish we'd had two when we started. That way, you can compare the two to see differences that mean something. You will have two hives that are under the same conditions on your property.

Read books, read other books. Find a bee club, join, go to the meetings.

If you ask 5 beekeepers the same question, you will often get 5 different answers. There is more than one way to do most things when it comes to keeping bees.
