The Imported English Jubilee Orpington Thread

@frannyglass Try advertising him on here (buy, sell, trade) as well a Craigslist. If you want at least mild assurance that he won't wind up in the freezer, try to get at least $10 for him. Not sure whether it's easier to sell them while they are young, or when they are a little bit older. Jubilee cockerels are pretty funny looking at that age. I have a 3 month old Jubilee cockerel advertised now, and at least he is past the "ugly" chick stage.

If you just can't have roosters, try to find a veterinarian who will caponize him for you. The testes are removed, just like a cat or dog being neutered, and they don't have any testosterone to drive them to do the things that roos do, like crow all day. On a technicality, I think a "no rooster" rule would be hard to enforce if the bird was caponized and reasonably quiet.

Thank you! I will try advertising him on here once I have enough posts to do so. I think he's starting to come out of his awkward phase a bit, he's getting very pretty.

I am technically allowed to have roosters, but I live right next to a residential development and have some very cranky neighbors who are probably not going to be thrilled about that. My problem is the sheer amount of roosters I currently am dealing with. My chicks were straight run, and currently I'm confident that 3/8 are little roos, and so I know I am going to have to find homes for some. (I also have 5 little babies who are too young to be sure of yet, but I'm pretty sure I've got some little cockerels in there as well) I just imagine it will be easier to find a home for fancy Frida than for my Easter Egger rooster, because I imagine people only want EE hens? I currently don't have the facilities to have a little rooster colony, and I am not sure my neighbors would deal with that well anyway.

Here is my Fancy Chick pullet. She is about 4 months old and some growing left to do. My camera wasn't working at optimum settings in the evening here, will try to get more natural lighting next time

I am new to Jubilee Orpingtons and Orpingtons in general. Are the feathers on Jubilee Orpington chicks frizzled before they settle down? I received 3 week old chicks yesterday and their feathers look frizzled. I have not taken new pictures yet but the following picture was taken before they were shipped to me and the chick in the very front is a good example of the frizzling they have. Looking forward to your advice and knowledge in this regard.

they aren't frizzled but I know what you mean. They do stick out all sorts of awkward ways. They will settle down

Those are not frizzled. Below is what a frizzled orpington looks like. They are quite rare. Sorry for the poor quality photos.
