I seem to inherit animals, or buy animals, that never seem to know what they are. That includes my chickens. I have an acre of property, so my next door neighbor, while spaced a pleasant distance away, is still relatively close. Yesterday I decided I would walk two of my three chihuahuas out to the coop so I could sit with them. My third chihuahua is absolutely terrified of the chickens, lol. Well, I have an old water pump that doesn't work anymore near the coop, but still far enough away that the birds wouldn't mess with the dogs too much (cause it's always the chickens doing the messing, not the dogs!) and of course a few of the birds went to investigate the dogs, got bored, and went back to foraging. Next door, my neighbor comes out her back door with her son and her mother who babysits for her while she's at work. She had just gotten home and was seeing her mother out to her car. Well, anyone that has chihuahuas knows that they bark at everything. So of course, Cooper and Sweet Pea start barking at the neighbor (no big surprise), but then one of my Splash Cochin hens runs over to the dogs and starts kind of cackling/barking at the neighbor right with the dogs! Sweet Pea stopped barking for a moment, turned to look at the chicken with a look of surprise, and then turned to bark some more. I told them to be quiet, and all three got quiet, dogs and chicken included! Then my hen went back to foraging like a normal chicken. I sat there dumbfounded for a moment. I mean, sitting at the computer with chickens has lead me to wonder if some of them weren't secretaries in a former life, but one that tries to bark? That was a new one on me! I still don't have a camera, but if I can catch her doing it again later, when I have one, I will take a picture and post it on here. I just thought I would share my funny little story, make someone laugh. Silly chickens that I have...
