yeah i cant imagine theyve made it if theres no movement. I was in denial for a few days when mine died. And i didnt want to throw it out. It was heartbreaking because it was such a developed chick!

I still have 5 eggs left. And can see movement in all but one is too dark to see. Lock down tomorrow for my one due on the 18th. I stopped turning this morning. I gave it a look tonight and its still moving! So i hope i get a baby out of this one.

My moms friend told me that when incubating, your lucky to get a 50% hatch rate.
How do you guys feel about that? Experience wise, have you usually done better than 50%?

Im not sad that mine have died. I feel bad for them but I'm just too tired to feel sad but im happy that i got one! Tell us as soon as one pips!!! I had a 75% fertility rate (3/4) and a 33% hatch rate (1/3) so for first hatch its not too bad because there are lots of people that hatch nothing on their first hatch! I think around 75% is average hatch rate for non-shipped eggs! Shipped eggs are usually 50%

Yeah my guess is she doesnt really care as much as most. Shes more of the laid back circle of life people. So i cant imagine she ever really went the extra mile to make sure everything was right, causing her low hatch.
But thats okay too i guess. Everyone does things differently. I think if her low hatch rate really bothered her that much she would look into it more.
But i heard that. And thought to myself 'that cant be right!'
I got 8 eggs from my neighbor down the street. 4 were infertile.
Of the 12 eggs of mine that i put in originally, 1 was infertile. I dropped 3.. thank god it was so early there wasnt a chick yet :( but they were fertile and had veins.. will never make that mistake again! (Hopfully)
The rest died of god knows what (probably because they were in the fridge) and i now have the 5 left. Everyone survived my temp spike today and they are still all doing good.
I know i shouldnt, but im now candling every day just to make sure everyone is alive and im not doing anything that could be killing them off.
Once the one goes for lock down tomorrow i will leave alone though.
I hope i can get the humidity high enough. I keep a few holes open so the temp is stable, but then it lowers the humidity. I have a hand towel and new socks in there to keep it up. But cant break 50. Hopefully if i leave the fan on high and most of the holes closed, i can keep it up high enough. But the babies need extra air when hatching right?

I have a big incubator and only 1 egg hatching at this time. You think i really need to keep extra holes open?

I candled twice a day! I couldn't get my humidity past 60 so i put wet sponges (clean ones) and it raised it 75% and this one hatched no probs! Try the sponge! I didn't close my holes the whole time!

You know, i was so excited. Cuz i found a car washing sponge in the garage with the plastic still on! So i tried that, and all the water just sunk to the bottom of the sponge and dried out the rest.
So i will be heading to the dollar store in the morning after my appointment i suppose! Maybe i will replace the towel and socks with sponges.

Im thinking kitchen sponges will work much better ;)
