The Incubators Thread!!! Come Join And Learn!!!

Well ok, I am thinking that I have 3 girls and 1 boy. I guess that I will know for sure in about 2 weeks. I knew what my other ones were by that time.

I'm not saying you aren't right, just that feather sexing alone isn't reliable unless the parents are of opposite feather growth speeds...

Knowing your flock and the chicks they produce is a great intuition and skill... :)

I can usually tell the same with my Silkies and Ameraucanas and those are both notoriously difficult to sex until much older... when I hatch from others flocks, I'm usually stumped til they're almost fully grown, lol!

Well, I only have the Australorps. I have already gone through 2 brooder batches of them, and this is now my 3rd go around with this breed. Anyways, I marked the one that I think is a male, and I will see if I am right or not when they are 2 weeks old.

I'd love to hear the results too... nobody can know your own flock like yourself... part of being a great flock manager is picking up those little details that we learn as we go...

Well, here's a picture of them that was taken a couple weeks ago or so, but they are redder now in the combs and wattles. Flash, my cockerel is doing his thing with one of the older black hens. My Blue and Splash pullets are on the left side. The blue babies I just hatched out will look like the blue pullet when they get to her age.

Did u actually catch a pic of your roo "in the act" I can't stop laughing thanks! I have about 10 smarty pants comments I will keep to myself I don't want to offend anyone lol. Your birds are beautiful!!!

Yes, I did catch him in the act. I don't know how long that he had been doing this though. That is why I grabbed those 4 eggs in there that had been laid that day and stuck them in the incubator to see if he was fertilizing the eggs yet. I now have 4 blue baby chicks from those eggs.

Talking about feather sexing... someone just came and picked up my chick and she reckons it is going to be a male... I said basically what you said @RavynFallen that it has to be a fast feathering male and a slow feathering female but she reckon nope it works with anything.... but then she said she reckons it doesnt work with bantams.... so i just let her believe what she wants to believe but she is going to send me updates on it
