Well, they all at least STARTED growing until day 11. So im not really sure what went wrong.
I keep my chickens at my moms house, and she didnt believe me that eggs can sit out at room temp for a week and be okay so she put them in the fridge until i went and picked them up. I have 4 of the 5 that are in my bator right now werent refrigerated (hopefully)
So i guess its all part of the learning process
I am not a propagator of chickens - under a hen or in an incubator ... .simply because I do not have the accommodation for more little chicks, hen Mummas', or just - any more chickens, at this time..... not to mention, I don't have a rooster !!
However, I have read elsewhere on BYC and on other threads that refridgerating fertile eggs does not hurt -
provided ... they are left out later to get back to room temperature, for ( I think ) 12 > 24 hours ??. ... Stand to be corrected on the amount of time to be removed and left to come to room temperature. I am guessing only, that continual extreme temperature changes might not be good ??? In and out of refridgeration - and room temps. Just a guess on my part.
..........
Wishing all who post here and who have hatchings imminent - do well, and have success. And that most of you do get at least
some sleep !!
You are all very brave people to be doing all this. .... I think I would be a candidate for psych. treatment if I were to watch over incubation, and mumma hens. ??
.... My next lot of chickens will come from a reputable breeder at POL. .. when we get the coops and runs organised.
I am a super wimp !! LOL.
............. Cheers all -
