The Incubators Thread!!! Come Join And Learn!!!

I have a friend, bless her, that is using her incubator for 19 eggs I gave her. She is going to let me know when problems may arise, and we are going to candle on Weds. She is teaching me little bit of what she knows with regards to her incubator.

When I first started incubating a few years ago I just bought the brinsea mini advanced it is full automatic easy to use etc. I incubated 6-7 batches. I was out of chickens when I moved and just started incubating again when I pulled it out to use it again after 2 batches of cooked eggs I realized the calibration was off. Using another thermometer I was able to recalibrate it. In the mean time I purchased (now 2) of the Janoel 12 incubators they were inexpensive $54 shipped they do come w/ an auto turner as well I haven't used it as I'm hand turning (it will fit way more eggs that way) I am using an additional thermometer/hydrometer and adjusting the temp but it holds the heat well it's circulated air I do have to tinker w/ it more because I like it to be in a certain range and the placement of the thermometer inside is off to one side. But for the price I have been very happy with it. Ik a lot of ppl like the hovabators but they can be a little tricky to get accustom to using etc. I hope that helps...I will never incubate again w/o an additional themometer regardless of what bator I use!

Have you found out if they are or not, yet?

I dont think any are. Its only day 4 but the ones i candled looked clear although they are dark and porous! A friend said that he saw the rooster mating just the other day so if these dont end up being Fertile, i will try again in a month or so

If he looks like he is making a good connection during the mating, then he should be fertilizing them.

I havent actually seen him so i will bave to keep an eye out

That would be the plan.

None were fertile.... cracked them open. Im going to wait a couple months before i try again and know they are fertile. Worth the try though

It's early for my orps but I can ususlly start to see something the AMs w/ them I can and these were shipped expensive eggs the last batch was scrambled grrrr. Unfertilized eggs is frustrating. Austro didn't u have a single chick hatch I may be in that situation today until my others hatch tomorrow what did U do??

Yeah. I put a stuffed toy in there with it. Others told me to put an unbreakable mirror in there but i didnt have one. I gave it to someone that had other chicks... if it is just for one day im sure it will be fine.

I might actually get the chick back... the people said if its a cockerel i can have it back as they cant keep roo's... i will just rehome him if this happens
