I had taken apart a MacBook Pro today (the 2010 one) and somehow despite me forgetting the fan connector it is still working fine, and I only noticed when the GPU started glitching. Intel really knew thermal management well back then. I reconnected it and it seems to be working fine.

I agree. I've found thermal managment and plug in connectors have really gone downhill in the last 10 years.
