Hi everyone!

I am new to BYC forum. I am currently raising Indian Runners, some Heinz 57 mixes, and some Khaki Campbells. I have 7 KC eggs in the incubator due to hatch in about a week. First time I have bought eggs off the internet. I did not have good luck ordering live hatch-lings. I picked up the mixed lot of hatch-lings at our local Farm store, they get them from a local breeder in Zeeland, MI. The four in my avatar were part of the mixed lot. I was given a great discount because they were last of the bunch and they were expecting a new batch of younger ones. I am new to raising ducks, we have a huge farm as well as a mixed lot of chickens that all get along with the ducks. What I would like to know is what conformation do you look for in showing KC ducks? I normally show miniature horses so going from mini horses to ducks is a big deal for me lol. I will try and post pictures as soon as I can get them to sit still long enough lol. They love to follow me around in the horse barn. Thankfully our mini horses adore the ducks, even let them sleep beside them!

We are new to this forum. Have been raising chicks for years and have only had ducks one other time. We got some K-C two weeks ago. They are adorable. Much messier than chicks.
My questions are
1). What is the best set up for their brooder. We currently have them in a large Rubbermaid tub. Changing it about seven times a day. As soon as new paper is down it is wet. I saw someone suggest using the tub??? Do they need dry land too, I'm afraid their feet are going to get sick standing on wet ground all the time. Not in a puddle but damp
2) what temperature should it be outside before they can move into the coop?how old should they be? Lows at night.... Out during the day in at night.... Are they the same as chicks? They look so much hardier.

Thanks for your help

I am still waiting for my KC's to arrive and will be new to ducks as well. I expect that they are going to be much messier than chicks as well. I plan to keep mine in a huge rubbermaid tub as well, however I plan to use pine shavings for the bedding. I would think if you used something like that rather than paper you wouldn't have to change the brooder nearly as often? Also you may want to try a waterer that the ducks cant tip over or make a mess of as easily, like the one pictured in Kada's picture above. Thats a neat idea. I've been picking up a lot of ideas from other's posts which is I jumped on this thread.

Thanks

We're going to try the shavings today.

We have the same waterer. They don't tip it over they just splash it and throw the water everywhere. It is crazy. The tub worked for two weeks but they are getting too big and too messy. I think we need something bigger
