The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Pics
She was one of five day olds Khakis that I ordered from Strombergs. She was the runt of the entire order and I was a little worried about her at first but she held her own. It didn't take me long to figure out she was a female because she's one of my most vocal ducks at feed time. :)

Can anyone tell me if this is a "normal" color for a Khaki Cambell? This pretty lady is lighter than my other Khakis and is pretty uniform in color but she doesn't look like the rest of my Khakis so I am just curious.

Some of my Khakis are this lighter color also, especially my Buffy pictured below.

Finally ended up just making a pen to keep my dogs from stressing the ducks out so much but it has been almost three weeks now with no eggs. is this still normal or should I do something ? They seem to be calming down a lot and I'm not sure what feed they were getting so this may be part of the reason. Help I really want some eggs!

wendeld, are your drakes displaying any new behavior? My 2 drakes and duck are about 15 weeks old now and so far are still getting along with each other just fine. They still wiggle up my arm or leg, even more often now. They do it even if I don't have food. They do a similar thing to my small dogs too, quiver then jump on them so it confuses me even more what that really means. They act more aggressive when they do it to the dogs though, puff up a bit and sometimes they take a run at them before the leap. So I really wonder if this is a dominance thing.

I had asked sone duck people on fb what there thoughts were on the wiggling thing only one person reaponded and said they are jusr looking for more treats but i dont think thats the case. the one thing i have really noticed is when they come back fron the pond for the day i put a dish of water out for them to clean off in and for the first five.minutes of it being out the ducks fight ! Even the ones i know for sure are girls , they really go at it until i clap.my hands im sure if i didnt stop them feathers would fly and they shove beaks down. Each others mouths after a little bit they calm down . I am confused now on how manu drakes and how many ducks.o have before i thought three ducks and seven drakes now i think six ducks and four drakes so i dont know haha i guess i will have to wait a liyyle longer. Do your drakes have their curly drake feathers yet?

The one drake has always had curly drake feathers but the one I just figured out is a drake hasn't developed any curly drake feathers yet but head and butt feathers are turning almost black/green. I expect to see some curls anytime but also I've read that in some small flocks one dominant drake will claim the duck and the less dominant drake can actually loose his curl, so maybe they might not develop at all? Who knows, again I'm just guessing having no prior experience. I bet yours are working out their pecking order, a while back I noticed mine bickering over everything especially water, food and my attention. It lasted a week or two I think. My experience seems quite a bit more mild though, makes me wonder if there's more competition in the bigger flocks so the displays of dominance might be more dramatic? Hopefully yours will work it out quickly.

I am wondering if I should prepare for my duck to be laying eggs soon? Did anyone start their on layers pellets at about 17 weeks or do you just wait until they lay their first egg? I really worry about this excessive calcium for drakes controversy. The majority seem to say that it's ok to feed them all layers pellets as long as they get extra veggies and can forage etc. but I am still confused about whether or not to allow them access to oyster shell, especially since I just have the one duck. Any ideas? Also it seems that ducks might not need an actual nesting box? Mine get locked in their house at night which has a wood floor and straw bedding. I thought she might just lay in the straw but I really don't know. If they do need a box, how tall should the walls of this box be?

Does anyone know what these guys might be mixed with?
I bought "Khaki campbells" and had my fiance pick them up because I couldnt make it there.
This is what he brought home. Had I gone, I would have never brought them home..

The woman told me she bought them from a hatchery and that they are "pure" khaki campbells but Im sure they are some kind of khaki campbell mix, they lay pretty consistently, and every single one of them has been fertile.. but what in the world are they lol.
