I should be thankful I got to enjoy him being around as long as I did and that I haven't lost more birds today than I did. At least I didn't loose 35-40 like on the new years day massacre.

Yep. He was one of the Good Ones, what we all dream our ideal rooster should be. Never human aggressive, protected the other birds, break up fights between other roosters. Would help broodys by sitting on eggs, even helped take care of babies. I didn't handle him much after me started crowing, but if you needed to he'd let you pick him up without going berserk. He was a good old bird.

So sorry for your losses. He was beautiful. That's coming from one who had a bad experience with an aggressive cockeral (30 stitches inside & out, plus 3 weeks of antibiotics). Needless to say landlord's son shot him and he became coyote dinner. And they paid all medical. But that said The King was beautiful and sounds like a rooster I would have liked.
Love the headstone idea. After etching name & when dry I would take some paint (that works on concrete) and make the name and other info you etch in stand out.
