Hi, all, tried to answer most. Probably TMI.
Note #1 post 182 - "Have you ever held an unconventional job? What was it? Why did you like it?"
I'm not sure what "unconventional" in this sense is. I've been a field geologist, an electrical engineer, a book editor and a comic book editor. I like being outdoors and not stuck in a cubicle, I will never work retail/high customer contact again. I did help run a small water-bath nuclear reactor one summer while working on materials for a PhD, does that count? How about driving/race instructor for SCCA racing? That was interesting and occasionally terrifying.
Note #2 post 242 - "what is your all-time favorite tool, and what did you build with it?"
My tile saw. I've done floors, walls, 2 showers, a huge raised tub deck. Also maybe the tractor (a smaller 30 hp Mahindra). I've done a lot of garden work and landscaping with it that would have otherwise meant digging by hand. The tractor's name is Dorothy - and DH named her, not me.
Note #3 post 295 - "What is your town like? Why do you like living there? Where did you live before this?"
I love where I live, which is not "in" any town, but out overlooking the lake, the wildlife refuge and the mountains. The town nearby is not particularly nice, though it gets the job done. I'd like to snap my fingers and replace that town with a different town, but that's not happening. Prior to here (3 years) we lived in Portland, Oregon, for 28 years. Loved the town, the people, the city - hated the winter weather, the traffic, the crowds.
Note #4 post 316 - "pens or pencils, and if pencils, then, mechanical or old-fashioned Ticonderoga No. 2"
Used to be mechanical pencils, but then I spent a lot of years in school in science and engineering where the ability to erase was important
. Now it's rollerball pens, medium point, blue ink.
Note #7 post 439 - "paper, or plastic, or do you bring your own reusable cloth bag?"
Reusable bag. When I remember it.
Note #8 post 460 - "What is your favorite thing about your yard or garden besides your chickens?"
My veg garden and my faux "streambed" on the north side of the house, the one that took three 40 ton loads of mixed cobbles and rock - and the use of DH's tractor - to make.
Note #9 post 480 - "camping or motel? If you camp, tent or trailer. If you motel, motor lodge, or 5-star?"
Both. Camping in a tent trailer away from the city and people in general. Hotels in the city for restaurants and nightlife. Hotels tend to be in city and nice, although not 5 star. I like to stay at hotels that have a small kitchen in room.
Note #10 post 515 by jeaucamom - "Which is your favorite season and why?"
Spring, most definitely. I live far enough north that the change in the length of daylight is noticable and the increaase in light and warming temps make me happy. Although the first snowfall of fall is welcome, too.
Note #11""If you had to lose a sense.. taste, touch, vision, hearing, sense of smell... which would it be and why?""
Don't really have a choice on this - I have a cornea disease which will mean cornea transplants down the road a bit. I have little night vision and poor contrast vision. Given a choice, I'd pick hearing or smell.
Note #12 post 567 - "Who does the dishes at your house, and is it a fair system?"
Mostly he does. I do 80% of the cooking, he does the dishes. And vacuums!
Note #13 post 597 - "What is the best vacation you've ever taken?"
Italy. Loved, loved, loved Italy. Other than that, probably sailing vacations in Hawaii or the Puget Sound/San Juan Islands.
Note #14 post 617 - "Vanilla or chocolate? Remember, this is really a false dichotomy."
I like both, but I find a lot of chocolate-containing things sickly sweet.
Note #15 post 656 - "Do you do spring cleaning? And if you do, how crazy do you get with it?"
Ehhh, I wouldn't say I go crazy with it, mostly just regard it as a necessary evil.
Note #17 post 697 - "What is the highest mountain you've ever climbed?"
Mt Hood, 11,249', although you don't quite get to the top. And once was enough.
Note #18 - "What flowers are blooming in your yard right now? (Or if you still have snow, what flowers are you looking for first?)"
I have snow from a storm this weekend (although it's almost gone) but I also have crocus, daffodil, wild tulips, dwarf iris. We saw pelicans out on the lake today, though, and that means it is definitely spring.
Note #19 - "What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten for breakfast?"
Usually leftovers. I particularly like Chinese and Indian food for breakfast.
Note #21 "When was the first time you watched a scary movie and what was it?"
Phantom of the Opera (with Lon Chaney) when I was about 5 or 6. I was at my uncle's house, and I hid behind the sofa. He made me feel better by whispering "see that water in those tunnels? That's not water, that's poop! He's walking through poop!" Otherwise I am not a fan of scary movies, nor particularly violent or gory movies. Although I love action movies, lately the level of violence and gore means I don't watch them anymore.
