AMEN, the smell and the dander etc... is a huge reason I want these little stinkers out of my garage. I can't wait for the rain to stop so I can get busy building. (or start building and look totally lost and helpless so my husband can act like a knight in shining armor and finish it for me)
The first batch of meaties I did, I brooded them in my basement. One time in the house was enough. It was okay for like 2 days, but then the smell was just too much. After that, i knew it was time to figure out a better way, and I did.
yup, i gotta copy your design next year...this year i used a weiner dog breeding run (8'x14' and kinda heavy) after i added 50 6 week cornishX to it, i had to use my Tractor to move my tractor...
I agree completely with BigRedFeather. Especially with putting a door on the back of the tractor. Why didn't I think of that?!?! Also, a simple, cheap tractor plan can be found at www.pvcplans.com. It's what I'm using, and I'm going to build a second one. Very light and easy to build.
I have a sliding door that drops into place on the back of mine. Thought of that for my turkeys, who liked to free range in the day and use the tractor for protection at night. That way I didn't have to lift the tractor every time I put them to bed.
I like that idea of a brooder light in there, though. I think I'll steal that idea.
Jaku, I also like the idea of PVC, but I'm afraid of these big Oklahoma winds taking off with the thing! Feel like I need a little weight to it, even if it does make it harder to move. My latest version does have wheels on the back and that makes it a bit easier.
