The laying has begun!

Over the past 3 days I have gotten 2 hard-shelled eggs from one of my hens, Sandy. The first was small but are starting to pick up in size. I have a question too:

Is a little blood smear on eggs normal?

Congratulations! I have found that when hens start laying, sometimes they have a little blood on the egg, but as long as she is not bleeding A LOT, it will most likely go away! Hope she keeps it up!

I would just keep a eye on the hen to make sure that she doesn't bleed to much. It should take care of it's self. The first eggs are often smaller, and are often called fart eggs. lol
