My mother-in-law uses a juicer and she asked me if I want all the tiny pieces of leftovers from it for the chickens. I told her I do but I wanted to check on here first...

Sometimes it's just a bunch of regular fruits and vegetables....apples, carrots, celery, etc....whatever she's got, but sometimes she will throw in an orange to make it a bit sweeter and easier to go down instead of just the vegetables. I've read on here something about not giving chickens citrus, but would the little that would be all mixed in with the fruits and vegetables be ok?

Also, how should I give it to them...should I just throw the mushy mess in the run and let them peck at what they want or should I use it to mix in with their food when I make them a mash? They love when I give them some of their 22% layer pellets mixed with some buttermilk. (and I like it because even though the "treat" they're getting is still mostly their food...lol) Sometimes I'll throw in a little BOSS, oatmeal, maybe bananas mashed up in it or something. Would it be ok to mix this juicer leftover mash in with that?

Never had any problems with oranges and apples with them. With everything else in it like BOSS, oatmeal, I think it would be good for them!

So, oranges are ok for them? I wasn't planning on feeding them a whole orange or citrus stuff, but I figured with the little bit in there that it would be ok.

It depends on who you ask...

I dont believe there is ANY research that shows that it is harmful in any way. (But I may be wrong.)

I wouldnt worry about, many people feed it with no problems.
