The Legbar Thread!

I know it has been a while since I said I would post some pictures of my juveniles that I hatched from CindyLee's ebay eggs. Well here they are...so glad I have 4 really good looking ones from Richard and some others on their way soon from Madamwlf. These are just a crazy looking bunch. These 6 all hatched from a batch of 8 eggs she shipped to me. They hatched on Father's Day and these pictures were taken a few days ago, so they are roughly 12 weeks old in these pictures.

This is the first girl...I call her Robin...I don't think I have a picture of her straight on, but you can see how dark her breast is...You can see why I named her Robin.

This is the second girl. She is nameless.

This is boy 1.

This is boy 2, you can see he is very dark, with a long tail for 12 weeks. He is very friendly, and his beetle shine is gorgeous in the sun...too bad he looks nothing like he is supposed too. :(

This is boy #3. He is mostly black and white.

This is boy #4, as you can see he has more red and gold showing through and again has a long tail and funky crest. He kinda looks like a devil in this pic, but he is really sweet too.

So this was an expensive little lesson for me. I have talked to a few other people on Ebay that have hatched her eggs and they all claim that theirs look "correct." But I really if people are not following any of these boards do they even know what "correct" means and who has the right version of correct anyway? LOL Regardless, none of these are anywhere near great. The girls will go to my laying flock and I am not sure what will happen to the boys. I really love them, but they can't be bred, so who knows. A few of them are quite striking and might just get to hang around for eye candy. The others might get to grow for a few more months and then go to Camp Kenmore.
Wow, WyoChickenMamma --

You really DO have an assortment there.....

Interestingly the 'correct', as you have said it Cream Legbars are pretty different from that. In fact when I see someone else's at the same age -- They seem nearly interchangeable with each other and with mine. It would be SO interesting to know what actually happened in the case of the eggs that you got. -- wow. I suspect that it will remain one of life's great mysteries....the boys have such long tails... To me it brings to mind some of the long tailed breeds..... These chickens however are quite beautiful. I wonder if they are autosexing, and if the eggs that the hens will lay are going to be the blue-egg-gene?? Thanks for posting them.

Talking about 'great minds think alike' - I have a "Robin" too. LOL.

It looks like they may be crossed with Icelandic?? Maybe she had a Icelandic Rooster visit the Cream Legbar Hens...Just a thought. They are really Beautiful. Molly

Here are two from the Cindylee53 eggs at 5 weeks Here they are as chicks, first and last on the left

Hi ADIDAS

Pretty chicks! So on your photo the left side has three chicks sleeping side-by-side... and the top one was the male in the other photo? I'm asking because my just-hatched males have a definite white head-spot. I should have been better about posting picts. It's been a bit hectic of late...

.

so center front and directly behind her are the two color variations of girls I got---and on the photos right front is one of the boys.. You can see his white head spot... coincidentally the far left body-- head not included as he walks away is the down pattern of the boys.

Not the best picture...but it shows the headspot on the males.... As I look at the chick pict you posted, I don't see the white spot. Is it just the photo? Thanks for any info.

ETA - a better picture, and now I think that you are saying those are all girls. The cockerel in the first picture has a different baby picture. LOL

wood be nice to tell line hen from laying x months=eggs laid and how many times a hen has gone broody..
You know what? I fully agree with you.

I remember thinking when I saw in UK sites that Cream Legbar breeders were trying to boost the laying to 180 eggs per year and above; that it was not really a lot of eggs. (I never calculated for broodiness.)

Those are three females with three Blue Isbar chicks on the right.

I gave the one in the middle away. The two left are the darkest and lightest.
