The Life of a Battery Hen - READ THIS.

This is one sad article. I grew up in the industrial or high intensity farming business rasing pigs and it is no way to raise an animal. That is why I am slowly trying to become self sufficent so the animals that are on my table I know were well taken care of and did not experience these conditions.

Exactly!!! Thank you for not supporting this horrible thing. :hugs

Wile sad, it's going to continue to happen. Nothing that can really be done
Only partialy true. While many of us humans do need/want to eat meat still, we don't have to get it from places like this. We can go back to the way it used to be by raising out own animals, and we can solve this problem one person at a time as we educate people on the cruelty of it all. I don't believe it is the governments job to step in, nor do I think they would do a good job, nor do I think they care. But we can join the self-sustainability movement, especially since most of us already have our own chickens.

Maybe on a massive scale that would work, but just because 10 people stop doesn't mean that 10 animals aren't going to be butched. They're born for that, they're not just going to be set free or given to a rescue
That is true, because change happens slowly, lots of the time. We may not be able to stop these processes completely, but we can at least try.

How are people that live in apartment buildings supposed to raise food animal? Or people that have laws about animals where you live?

I get your points, and I know that poor people often can't afford anything better than what comes from factory farms, so we shouldn't shut them down for all those people to starve, if the movement is successful they'll go out of buisness on their own. We need to start changing the laws to make it that responsible chicken owners can have birds anywhere. Also, people do have chickens in big cities, it's called the City Chicken movement, people have chickens in pens made for them ontop of skyscrapers! Actually you're allowed to have chickens in many big cities if you dispose of their poop properly and keep them contained, it's smaller cities/bigger towns that tend to have more restrictions. You don't even need roosters to get some fresh eggs, and you can get meat bird hens for meat, so that's how you handle the noise ordinances
