I finally decided to relax, as there was apparantly no point in trying to get out. I sat and waited. Finally, the bumping stopped, and I waited some more. I heard a few metallic clangs. What's going on?? I couldn't really see through the holes, but there was a blue thing that looked stiff and was wirey.
The box I was in was flipped over, and I struggled to stand up again. The box opened, and a giant face stared down at me. The juvenile human grunted in it's language, and set me in the wirey thing.
Stunned, I looked around. There was another budgie already on the perch who was a sky blue recessive pied greywing male. I recognized him from where I came from. He must have been taken here with me. His feathers were flat against his body, but he fluffed them up again when he saw that it was me.
"Hello!" He greeted, pleased to find a fellow budgie.
"Hi," I said, not sure what was going on.
"You look scared,"
"I am. Do you know where this is?" I asked.
"I have no idea." He replyed.
"That human is scary, it looks bigger up close," I said, puffing up in fear.
"I believe that's a she." He said matter of factly.
"What's a she, the human? I didn't know they came in hes and shes," I was surprised, "How can you tell?"
"It's kind of hard, but usually the fur on their head gives it away. Females have longer fur."
"Do you think they can control how long it grows?"
"Who knows?" He answered with a bob of his tail.
We preened each other silently after that. At least with budgies it's easier to tell genders. I was a she. I also kind of thought that my new friend was too cheery sometimes, but I guess that can't be a bad thing. Then, I saw a shiny thing with a budgie in it.
"What's that?" I asked the other budgie.
"It's a mirror. It shows you what you look like,"
"Wow!" I studied myself. My mask was yellow, the spots on it were blackish, I myself was light green, and brown markings went down my wings. I knew what I was now. I was a cinnamon light green. Cool! Not as fancy as I hoped, but I thought I was sort of pretty.
And so, with the help of my blue buddy budgie, I started to settle in this strange new place. Maybe it won't be so bad after all. I closed my eyes, and went to sleep.
