~*~The Life Story of Apple the Budgie~*~

Chapter Eight

The human came by again the next day, took Sky out, and left with him. Where were they going? I almost chirped to him until I remembered that I was still mad at him. I sat grudgingly on my perch.
About half an hour later, they were back. Sky was the happiest bird I've ever seen.
"Hey, Apple!" He chirped happily at me, apparently forgetting about being mad. I hopped onto my swing to show him that I owned it now. He glared at me. I glared back.
"You don't have to be like that! Can't we all be friends?" He cocked his head.
"You are the one who started this, so I wouldn't be talking."
He didn't reply, the human just set him in his cage, where he sulked to his perch to sit there without moving.
Would the human take me out now? I stared intently at her. She just looked back at me, and left without saying a word.
What was that for? It seemed like everyone I knew was mad at me. Maybe I should just apologize to Sky, and make it all better, but I really didn't want to give in when Sky started all this. He should learn his lesson and he should be the one apologizing, not me. I glared at him some more. He ignored me, and closed his eyes.
This was so boring!! I wasn't in the mood to play with toys, and I wasn't sleepy. They human wouldn't help either, as she had left.

~A few hours later~

The human returned, and took Sky out. Bringing him to her wooden thing propped up with wooden legs, she stared at yet another floppy paper thing. Sky chirped happily on her finger, and she stopped to kiss him once in a while.
So that was it, the human just did not like me anymore. Sky was her favorite, not me. Fine then, two can play at this! If she was going to be like that, so would I, and I will not be friendly again until she shows some friendliness.
I have no more to say. The next day was incredibly boring. So was the next week, and the days after that. She didn't put Sky back in our old cage that I was in. She didn't take me out. I didn't play with toys. I had trouble sleeping. I even started to pick at my feathers. What would life bring me now?

Chapter Nine

The human looked at me with sad eyes, and said softly, "I hoped I'd never have to do this, Apple, but after you started plucking, I have no choice. You're not the happy little bird I at the pet store anymore." What did that mean? What was going to happen?
She picked up my cage, and went outside, into a red thing on wheels. It rolled along, taking us with it for a few minutes, and finally stopped. She took my cage out, and walked towards a human building.
Opening a hard flap on the outside, she carried me in.
"Is this the bird you wanted to surrender?" A female human asked.
"Yes," She said sadly, "Goodbye, Apple, I hope you find a good home... Somewhere else." She then left without ever looking back. I clung to the bars of my cage, still looking at her. I chirped, but she did not answer.
I climbed back on my cage, and studied the human that I was brought to. "You poor little bird," she said, "Who just joined the thousands of pets who's owner didn't know how to take care of properly. You're a good bird, I know. It's all your owner's fault."
I looked at her, and cocked my head. She smiled, and picked up my cage. She carried it into a room where a lot of other birds like me, and some finches and canaries. There was a menacing looking green parrot with some yellow on his nape several times bigger than me. I hid behind my toy. What was going on?
The human set my cage on an open spot next to the window. I looked out to see dozens of humans wandering around. There were also the furry creatures that the other birds and humans said were "Cats" and "Dogs". I looked around. Next to me was a cage with three zebra finches. On my other side sat a cockatiel. The menacing amazon was still staring at me.
"H..hello?" I chirped in a small voice.
"Hiya," the cockatiel whistled
"Heelllo!" The amazon sang in human.
"You can speak human?" I chirped carefully
"Yes I can! They taught me how," He replyed in parrot.
"C...can you teach me?" I asked.
"Sure, why not? The humans are always happy to adopt a talking parrot," He squaked back
"Adopt?"
"Buy you, and make you part of their family," He explained.
"But I already have a family!"
"Yes, but they left you here, right?"
"Yes..."
"Listen, if your human leaves you here, she doesn't want you anymore. Another will come to get you, but you will never see your old one again. Ever." I fluffed in fear.
"Oh, don't worry, it's not as scary as I made it sound."
"But my friend..." I stopped. I knew what was happening. The human liked Sky more, so she kept him. I was the grumpy one, so I was given away. Some life. I yawned and closed my eyes. At least another one would come for me, and in the meantime, I had mister amazon. "By the way, what's your name?" I asked.
"It's Polly."
"Polly" I repeated, and went to sleep.
