Chapter Thirty Six

It was two months after Clouds' and my adventure outside. I have been grouchy lately.
"What's wrong?" Clouds asked me, as he did a lot these days.
"It's nothing," I grumbled.
"I recognize your behavior."
"You do?" I asked, curious.
"Yes, I've seen it on the other breeding pairs."
"Wait, why can't we talk to them again?"
"Well, we can, but they aren't very nice." He answered.
"You're hiding something."
"I'm not. I tried talking to them before. They're like that."
"So what have you seen on them, again?" I went back to the subject.
"We're all like that in the Spring, especially hens who are about to lay."
"WHAT?"
"I'm afraid it's true."
I stormed to the other side of the cage. I didn't want this to happen!
Ok, I told myself. Calm down, Apple. You can do this. It can't be so bad.
Just then, the human reached his big hands in our cage and attached a bunch of seeds stuck to each other on the bars.
"Mind if I move over there?" Clouds was getting away from the seed thing, a new object that we had to be scared of until we decide it's safe.
I didn't respond, my eyes were glued to the thing.
The human opened our cage again, and this time, attached a block of some kind of rock to the sides of the cage.
I screeched at it.
"Hey," Clouds was staring at the seed thing, "There's millet on that!"
"Really?"
"Yes, and anything with millet on it can't be that bad!" He replied, and went over to chew on it.
"Hey, wait for me!" I called, and flew over.
"You're not grumpy anymore, huh?" Clouds teased with a mouthful of millet.
"Oh, I forgot."
Clouds laughed, "Really?"
I hated his sarcasm.
I hopped onto my swing and glared at him.
"You had to remind me," I chirped darkly.
