About 10 days ago, the night before we brought my 5 year old home from Duke after a month of struggle for her, a coyote killed my hens. I had only one roo left. And six eggs, four of which I figured were too old to hatch but tried them anyway.

Thanks to the kind hearts here at BYC, we are rebuilding by hatching our new flock. Several people offered to send eggs and I was so overwhelmed with everyone's generosity. Both Lovinmypeeps and Sonew sent a box of eggs last week. I received some beautiful eggs on Monday this week and they have been set now.

Here's what I have in my bator now.

Of my six that I started with, one had a blood ring and I pulled it. They are on day 10. The others are developing and while one seemed to be an obvious clear at first, it is now questionable. 2 have obvious, moving babies, and one appears to have two???? Another had an obvious baby til I cracked it moving it. Now I have to look through the wax and I am not sure...

And here is what my friends sent:

5 - Mixed

3 - unmarked - one is silkie or frizzle, others are brown, large eggs.

1 - frizzle

2 - split lavender silkies

1 - standard cochin

5 - BR/EE mixes

They are on day two. Right now they are all in the same bator until the others get ready to hatch. Hopefully we'll have the new bator that we are doing dialed in by then. If not, I'll have to borrow someone's for a hatcher.

So anyone in the same time frame as these eggs hatching, please join. And anybody else who just likes to chat! Come along. Share what you have in your bator and lets do this together!

Thank you to all my friends on here who are helping our family rebuild our flock. It's a huge blessing. A very unexpected one.

Best of luck with your hatch 0 I wish you the best. It has got to be hard starting from scratch - I have lost some birds here and there for various reasons, but never all of my ladies at once. I hope they all hatch and grow quickly. Looking forward to hearing lots of good news from you and seeing baby pics after the hatch!

If there's any question, I keep it.

I am a "serial" candler. I admit it. There's no club for that either, lol. Every now and then someone around here shouts out "STEP AWAY FROM THE BATOR" and it works sometimes for me. Sometimes not.

I have 3 from her that were hatched in Jan that were in the brooder when the coyote came. They are now in the big pen with the roo who was leftand he's loving them! I was worried, but he began protecting them right away, and yesterday he acted like he wanted to get me when I went to feed. He's never done that like that, so I think he's being overprotective because they are young.

blessedchickenmama7 - I have 11 Bantam Cochin eggs in the 'bator that were set yesterday, so our hatches should coincide! Good luck (to the both of us - it seems we both really want these eggs to hatch

)!

Cool!! One of my mix eggs that is developing for sure came from my white bantam cochin and I had a red cochin roo in the pen, too, so I am hoping for a pure on that one. I also had BO's and RIR and PR in there.

I have some eggs due to hatch on March 29 I think. They will be easter eggers, If they hatch. Its my first time incubating, so we will see how it goes!
