The "Love Thy Neighbor" Hatch Thread

Day 7 and I have moving babies of all kinds in there!!!

Of the 17 eggs I received from my friends, here is the rundown:

2/5 Mixed eggs, 1 ? so maybe 3 (other two have blood rings) see movement on both of the two

1/1 large not marked brown egg with movement

0/1 standard cochin (clear)

2/2 booted Mille Fleur with vigorously moving babies!!! (Can see clearly into these little eggs)

1/2 split lavender silkies with movement (1 clear or very early quitter)

2/5 BR/EE mixes (I cracked two of them and waxed them before setting

One of those waxed eggs has a definite moving baby in it. The other does not.)

So of 17 shipped eggs, of which "I" cracked two, there are 8 for sure moving babies. There are 3 more that are questionable and may be good but I could not see any movement, and they seemed a bit "behind" but definitely not clears.

Hoping these all stay healthy. Come on, babies, come to Mama!!

Be interesting to see if the SC I gave Deanna hatch. Yours and mine were clear. Natalie you need to kick your roo in the keester! He's hot, but needs to work on his seduction skills. The mille's are super ripe LOL. I have one in the bator too. I guess I may be able to send them out for sale as the fertility is showing up as 100% even shipped

The unmarked are last day collection ee/br's although there is a rare chance it may be an ee/chantecler.

Yeah, it might help Nat to know about Deanner's, too. I guess it could have been an "off" week for him though, especially if he's normally good.

Good to hear about your MF's, since I'm really wanting to get some! Yay for you and me!

Of the 11 shipped eggs I started with, 8 are developing!

The temperature was a bit too low for the first 5 days (what are the chances of getting 3 thermometers that all read exactly the same, except too low?!), but I've bumped it up now, and they're all still alive. The eggs are various shades of light brown with very thick shells, so they're tough to candle. When I shine the light in through the top of the egg (through the air cell) I can see veins, but I can't actually make out the shadow of an embryo in any of them

. Veins are a good sign though - if the temp. change when I bumped it up had killed them, the veins would have collapsed into a blood ring by now. I'm expecting these eggs to survive, but they'll probably hatch a few days late.

I'm pulling the 3 clears out tonight, and then I'm going to try my best to leave them alone until hatch time!

So the power went out today for about 30 minutes. I put a blanket over my little homemade bator and it held like a champ. Never went below 99.0!!

Posted this on Shark Sniper Thread, but we got two new duck babies today!! From TSC. So I'll post up pics later tonight when I get time.

Nothing's better than cheeping babies. Even if they are ducks.

well My homemade candler isn't working out as great as I had hoped, I can't see into my green eggs at all. I have managed to weed a brown one that wasn't developed at all... I think I need to invest in an actual candler haha.
Annarie congrats on your 8!
Blessedchickenmama7 good thinking with the blanket over top!

Danielle,

I bought a mini mag lite and it works pretty good. It's easy because it's small to wrap your fingers around and not let light around the edges out. It did not work with olive eggs, or with marans. But with the light blues and greens it does.

Okay, I don't currently have a mag, but used a regular flashlight and even that was much easier! I think I will pick up a mag tomorrow and give that a try. Based on how the regular flash light worked I think the maglight will do great, Thanks for the tip!!! Can you tell this is my first hatch ?
